Update #5: Backerkit surveys and shipping
about 1 month ago – Fri, Nov 15, 2024 at 12:29:19 PM

Hello!

The shipment from the manufacturer is set to arrive around December 22nd. In the meantime I want to get shipping sorted so that as soon as the shipment arrives, I can send it off to everyone.

For shipping there are two different options that you can choose from:

Royal Mail. The cheaper option but they do not operate outside the UK so packages might get lost. There may also be an additional cost upon delivery (Delivered Duties Unpaid).

DHL Express. Much more expensive but a lot more reliable as they operate in multiple countries.

These are the shipping costs for me to send one copy of the Base Game (the posters, comic books and stickers can fit into the same box at no extra shipping cost. Backers who pledged for more than one copy the cost might be a little higher).

As previously mentioned, I'm really not happy with the cost and understand if you feel a little swindled. I've backed a campaign before and didn't realise I had to pay extra for shipping and it is annoying. I did write about it on the campaign page but it's understandable if not everyone saw it before backing. I have tried my hardest to find the cheapest possible solution and I wish I had enough money to pay for everyone's shipping but I don't. If the 8 dropped backers were still in we'd have £676 ($873) that could have been used to help supplement shipping cost. It doesn't sit right with me to charge people an additional $30 for a game they paid $25 for so I'll be including two new holo cards to all backers who spend at least £15 on shipping (These two cards will be different designs from the limited holo cards that some of you already pledged for).

All the shipping info and shipping funds will be collected through Backerkit. You should receive an email next week with a survey.

Some questions you might have:
Why are you using a new platform like Backerkit and not Kickstarter to sort out shipping? / Why are you charging us after we have already pledged money?

When the campaign was launched I didn't have an idea of the game's size and weight (The amount we raised affected the game's specs) so didn't want to set a price in case it was wrong. I don't think I'd have been able to just guess a random number and make people pay it. Backerkit is a reliable way to collect shipping info and shipping funds after a Kickstarter campaign has ended.

In other news...

The posters, comic books and stickers have all arrived successfully.

Cardboard boxes are here too and ready to go.

The main missing ingredient is still on the way from the manufacturer but should be here by late December.

This update was difficult to write but it's very exciting at the same time. Please message me if you have any questions or queries about any of this.

Update #4: Production
2 months ago – Tue, Oct 15, 2024 at 11:14:08 PM

Hello!

Sorry for the delayed update. I've been waiting the past couple weeks for pictures of the manufacturing process. But now I'm happy to share the following:

I'm not sure exactly when production will be finished but it's nice to see it coming along. I hope to receive all copies by early December.

I have been thinking and researching the best way to handle fulfillment and I will most likely use BackerKit. I will also be sending out surveys soon to get some shipping info from you guys. I think I will make it so there are different shipping options.

As stated in the campaign, backers will be charged for shipping after the campaign (and this will most likely occur in a month or so). Some of the shipping looks to cost more than expected but I've been trying hard to find the cheapest option (for US orders it looks to cost somewhere between 20 and 30USD).  The cheaper options have a higher chance of getting lost (if that happens we can talk about sending you a new copy) and you might have to pay DDU on arrival but the expensive option is done through DHL so it's quick and secure. Over this month I'll continue to work on fulfillment solutions to make sure stuff is all ready to ship out as soon as it arrives to me (I want to avoid Christmas shipping as much as possible).

If you've got any questions about that, please let me know.

Thanks!

Update #3: Pre-production Sample
4 months ago – Thu, Aug 22, 2024 at 08:10:08 AM

Hello!

Apologies for the delayed update, I was busy working the most stressful job all summer. But here I am, with news!

So I've just received a pre-production sample from the manufacturer. Here is a lovely picture of it alongside the sample made from TheGameCrafter:

There are a couple of things I'm not particularly happy with, for example the yellow colour looks pretty bland. At least the black borders look good and even.

And now there is a tray inside the box (instead of just loose cards) which looks really cool and professional.

So basically now there will be a bit of back forth again with me and the manufacturer to try iron out the issues (I need to update some of the files too). I know sometimes the pre-production samples of games are made to a slightly less quality than the real ones so maybe I don't have to worry too much...

After I'm ok with everything then bam! Straight to mass production! This will take a month or so and then shipping will also take a month or so. This means hopefully we'll all have our very own Nasty Ones games by the end of November!

This is your last chance if you've got anything you wanted to add or change then please let me know on Discord, I'll be asking people on there for their opinions on stuff before I flick the switch on mass production.

I'm sorry again for the slow update! My main job has finished and now I have time to work with the manufacturer and get this game produced. I've also bought a new drawing tablet which I've been trying to get used to with some doodles:

Update #2: Next step
6 months ago – Sun, Jun 16, 2024 at 05:46:03 AM

Hellooooo

So I'm currently sending all the files to the manufacturer and I should be placing an order next week!

It's been delayed a little more than I'd like and therefore don't expect any Nasty Ones to arrive until maybe November now. A couple of things went wrong which caused this delay: I was waiting on a couple of backers to respond back to me so I could draw their custom designs. My emails weren't being received by the manufacturer for a week or two. And we've lost a lot of funding due to errored backers. The campaign raised £6000 but after Kickstarter fees and errored backers, the final total was £5000. It shouldn't be a big problem but it means some of the extra things I wanted the game to have might not happen now (like more shiny cards and better quality materials).

But onto more positive things... Everyone who backed the campaign will have their name featured at the back of the rulebook in the Base Game. If you'd like your name removed/changed, please let me know. Also! Here are the downloadable files:

The link will expire in a week (dm me if you'd like access in the future).

What happens now?

Well, after a little more back and forth with the manufacturer, making sure everything's good, I'll get sent a pre-production sample. That'll take about a month or so to arrive. After I approve that, main production occurs (about another month or so) and then delivery (another month or so).

I'll be updating Discord more regularly with smaller updates so if you're keen, follow along there.

Thanks for reading all xox

Update #1: We did it!
7 months ago – Wed, May 15, 2024 at 09:59:47 AM

Wow! Hello! Salutations!

Welcome to the first progress report for the Nasty Ones Kickstarter. Thanks so so much to everyone who backed or shared the campaign on social media, it's very surprising and heart-warming to see so many people support this bizarre, little card game I originally concocted two years ago. There were numerous occasions where I was going to give up and do something completely different but now I am glad to have stuck with it and am motivated to propel it forward to the unknown future that is filled with mysteries and delights.

So what comes next?
Well in the coming weeks I'll be chatting back and forth with the manufacturer, uploading and formatting all the files (there's over 250 of them!) and working out the logistics of everything. I've already contacted backers who have pledged the 'Nastiest Tier' and will be drawing their custom designs to be added to the Base Game. After the order has been placed, I'll get a pre production sample and once that's approved it's about a two/three month wait until everything else arrives to me.

From the middle of June I'll be working at a summer school six days a week so I won't be able to continue working on Nasty Ones stuff as much as I'd like until September. But hopefully everything will be sorted by the middle of June and by the time September comes around, copies of the Base Game as well as all the other products will be ready to be delivered to all of the backers.

If you guys have any questions, comments, life advice, please do not hesitate to reach out. I don't want to be bothering everyone with constant emailss so the next Kickstarter update might not be for a while. However I'll be posting on Discord more consistent news about the current state of production etc.

Much love and peace to all of you,
Rafflesia Simmonds
